The Acting Course
The Acting Course
The Brazilian Theatre has had a strong and sudden development in the 60´s and 70´s, during a dictatorial political period. There were lots of left-oriented actors and directors who believed theatre was a way to consciousness and freedom.
After that period of many creations and new impulses, we gained a great collection of innovative theatre texts and also new techniques, such as the oppressed theatre, by Augusto Boal, who brings the original idea of catharsis from the Greek - a new form of dealing with the actor’s own emotions and the character’s emotions in the process of building this character.
Other techniques such as Viola Spolin, Michael Chekov, The Third Mask and The Theatre of the Absurd are also part of the acting course.
Marcia Ferreira brings her experience to explore a new way to face and get involved with theatre. Her key ingredient is intuition. „Whenever an actor listens to his/her inner voice, he/she develops an intimate way of relationship with him/herself. And to reach the own essence is the main aim: before getting to know your lines and your character, you’ve got to know yourself better!"
During the course, the participants also study the origins of theatre in many different cultures and epochs around the world, and some of the great names of today and yesterday, such as Stanislavski, Jean-Paul Sartre, Goethe, Charlie Chaplin, Saliba Filho, Denise Stocklos, etc. Themes and ideas from students in the course are very welcome to get us into research and discussion.
Besides the intellectual studies, the participants are involved in a series of improvisation, concentration and relaxation exercises. There will also be social work, which involves street theatre and other initiatives.
